A homeowner in Red Bank, NJ complained their rooms were uncomfortably hot and too cold. When inspecting their home we found the attic Kneewall had cold air entering through leaky fascia/soffit assemblies or through soffit vents. We also have hot air radiating off the roof making the attic even hotter during the summers.
To solve this issue we spray foam the attics rim joists to eliminate outside air from leaking into the attic. Next our SilverGlo foam insulation is installed under the rafters up the Kneewall and sealed at the seams with our orange ZypFoam sealant. Our SilverGlo foam insulation has graphite infused into the foam, which increases the R-value by 24% compared to regular EPS foam. In addition, our SilverGlo foam insulation has a reflective radiant barrier on both sides to reflect roof heat out during the summer and house heat back in during the winter.
Our customer now enjoys a significantly warmer house in the winter, a cooler house in the hot weather, kneewall storage space and lower fuel/electric bills.
Winter is coming and it’s getting colder! This customer in Red Bank, NJ had some cold rooms last winter and an uncomfortable house. When our team inspected the owner’s attic they found old fiberglass insulation poorly insulating the homeowner’s attic. Unfortunately, this customer knows all too well that a poorly insulated attic means an uncomfortable home and higher fuel/electric bills.
First our team spray foams the rim joists then installs our Foamax insulation boards on the underside of the roof deck to create a thermal barrier. Using our orange ZypFoam sealant our crew seals the gaps and seems of the Foamax insulation and air seals the attic. Finally we dense pack behind the Foamax, blowing-in our TruSoft Cellulose insulation in between the joist bay walls.
The homeowner now enjoys a much more comfortable and energy efficient home.
Leaky ducts and an under-insulated attic in Red Bank, NJ, were causing year-round discomfort, higher energy bills, and poor indoor air quality for this homeowner. Conditioned air was escaping through the supply ducts, while dirty attic air was being drawn into the return ducts. To resolve these issues, we encapsulated the ducts with SilverGlo foam boards sealed with ZypFoam, air-sealed the attic floor, and added R-60 cellulose insulation for maximum comfort and energy savings. We also installed wooden retaining walls and a catwalk to provide easy access to the mechanicals.
Looking at this attic in Red Bank, NJ, the before picture clearly highlights the need for our expertise. The homeowner required our assistance in properly insulating the attic, as they were struggling to maintain comfortable temperatures during both hot summers and cold winters. Given the leaking ducts, insufficient insulation, and lack of air sealing in the attic, it's no surprise the homeowner was experiencing such discomfort. Fortunately, as experts in our field, we addressed the issues by fixing the duct leaks, air sealing the attic, and installing TruSoft cellulose insulation up to the optimal R-value of R-60. These improvements ensure that the homeowner now enjoys a more comfortable and energy-efficient home.
This attic in Red Bank, NJ, suffered from poor insulation, leaky ducts, and a lack of storage, leading to discomfort and high energy bills. To resolve these issues, we installed a SuperDeck system with 4-inch foam boards on the attic floor, topped with wooden decking for both insulation and storage. The ductwork was encapsulated with 2-inch foam boards, all gaps were sealed to eliminate air leaks, and blown-in cellulose insulation was added to the remaining attic space. To further improve efficiency, a David Lewis Hatch cover was installed to seal the attic entrance. The result is a well-insulated, functional attic that boosts comfort and lowers energy costs.
