This customer was a victim of Hurricane Sandy years ago. In the reconstruction of their shore home they installed a new HVAC system and needed it to be tested by a certified IECC tester. They reached out to Dr. Energy Saver to come to the home to perform the test.
We sealed all of their vents with tape and plastic. Then we sealed a return duct with our fan hose inside of it. The fan pressurizes the duct system and can measure total duct leakage in cubic feet per minute. This is a measure of the efficiency of the system and can also be performed on existing homes and systems to help find possible solutions for leaky ducts.
Sealed Vent
Vent is sealed so that only air leaving the ducts unnaturally is measured.
Hose Sealed to Duct
Hose is sealed to duct, stopping any miscalculations from air escaping.
Fan Pressurizes Ducts
Fan pressurizes ducts and measure how much air leaks per minute from them. This gives us an actual calculation of how efficiently or inefficiently the system is running.
Dust Trying to Escape
Air tries to escape the duct system anyway it can and is blowing so hard it is picking up some dust along the way. The test will surely be an accurate measure at how much air leaks from the ducts.
