This customer reached out to us because his upstairs rooms were too cold in the winter. His master bedroom was constantly uncomfortable because the insulation that was between the room and the attic was not functioning properly. Dr. Energy came through for this customer providing solutions that made this home more comfortable for the residents. For this particular home, we felt that air sealing with foam and then encapsulating his bedroom in 2" reflective high density foam board would provide the desired results for the homeowner. To keep the rest of the house insulated, we air sealed all air entry points in the attic, we then installed an air sealed insulated storage deck on the floor, covered by plywood to create a storage deck and a safe plane to walk on. Around the edges of the attic our team blew cellulose insulation to keep that the conditioned air inside of the home, upgrading the R-value(Resistance to heat flow) of the insulation to R-60. To ensure the home was a tightly sealed, we reinstalled the customers zipper seal attic stair cover so that the stairs would not allow air to leak through.
