Challenge

When inspecting the attic in Lincroft, NJ, we discovered it lacked proper air sealing. Upon examining the fiberglass insulation, we noticed significant dirt buildup, indicating inadequate sealing. This allows conditioned air, which the owner pays for, to escape into the unconditioned attic space. Additionally, we identified leaks around can lights in the attic floor or ceiling of rooms below, further contributing to energy loss.

Solution

Our solutions include air sealing the attic floor, installing can light covers to prevent air leaks, dense packing the attic floor, blowing cellulose insulation, and offering SuperDecking for improved storage and higher insulation levels. These measures not only improve comfort and energy efficiency but also enhance indoor air quality.

The attic lacks proper air sealing and insulation, which is essential to keep the home comfortable and prevent energy bills from getting too high.

This can light is not properly insulated and is leaking conditioned air into the attic. We will use a can light cover and seal it to effectively prevent conditioned air from escaping into the unconditioned attic space.

The dirt buildup in the insulation suggests that conditioned air from the room below is leaking into the unconditioned attic. As air passes through the porous fiberglass insulation, dirt is filtered in, leaving the insulation dirty. Once we air seal the attic, we can properly insulate it to prevent conditioned air from escaping.
