To maximize results for a Full Attic air seal and insulation treatment we must inspect every aspect of the attic. When inspecting our customer’s house in Marlboro, NJ, we found old fiberglass insulation wrapped around the skylights framed tunnel. After removing the old fiber glass insulation in the attic, we found air seeping through the seams of the Skylights framed tunnel.
Skylight tunnels are often poorly insulated resulting in overheated and uncomfortable rooms that are hard to cool.During the summer this creates higher electric bills for our customers.During the winter heat is lost giving homeowners higher fuel bills.
Solution
Insulating the walls of the Skylights framed tunnel is a proper solution for eliminating overheating and cold rooms. We use SilverGlo foam board insulation with a radiant barrier to prevent heat loss and gain.
After securing the insulation to the framed walls, we apply Orange ZypFoam to the seams in order to prevent air from seeping in and out of the attic/room. Finally, we can blow our TruSoft Cellulose insulation around the Skylights framed tunnel walls and into the joist bays giving us a finished product.
This solution will result in a cooler more comfortable room in the summer and a warmer room in the winter. In addition these results will lower the electric and fuel bill making the homeowner and our customer, a happy customer.
Old fiberglass insulation wrapped around the Skylights Framed Tunnel Walls. We can see stained insulation where mildew and mold builds up creating an unhealthy atmosphere that is circulated throughout the houses unsealed seams.
The Skylights Framed Tunnel walls are exposed with no insulation and no sealed seams. Dirt and mold formed on the old fiberglass insulation creates an unhealthy environment as air seeps into the exposed seams. Without the proper sealant and insulation; air, heat and the cold will dissipate into the room below making an uncomfortable house.
After removing all the insulation we can see the Skylights Framed Walls exposed. This picture represents an in production image.
While in the production phase we can see the Skylights Framed Walls without any insulation or sealed seams. We can even see the gap where the Skylight connects to the roof and adjoining framed walls.
After installing SilverGlo foam board insulation, we use Orange ZypFoam to seal the seams to eliminate any cold/hot air from entering the attic/room below. The image shown is in the production process of this project.
During the production process our crew is seen prepping for the last stages of this project. Once the attic is completely sealed we can then start the insulation process.
Finally we now blow TruSoft Cellulose insulation around the Skylights Framed Tunnel Walls. This picture shows the last stages of this project.
This last image shows the completed project. The skylight and attic is now properly sealed and insulated.
Looking at this last image we can see the Skylights Framed Tunnel walls from inside the room. This is the finished results of a properly insulated and sealed Skylight. A Full Attic air seal and insulation treatment is now completed.
