This customer in Oceanport, NJ was experiencing a problem that a lot of neighbors in this area face, a musty basement. This home was well built and well insulated everywhere, but the home's basement and rim joist. This left the home's basement feeling damp and musty on the average day, which then affects the indoor air quality of the home because around 60% of the air in our home comes from below. Dr. Energy Saver knew just the right treatment for these customers to get the basement and rest of the house feeling more comfortable and less musty.
First the team sealed the rim joist of the home with 2" reflective foam board which provides a rigid barrier of insulation on the flat wood surfaces. Then, one of our signature products, ZypFoam is used to seal the crack gaps and holes around the foam and the wood framing to effectively seal and insulate the rim joist.
Knowing the basement walls had a large surface area, and would be costly to properly frame, insulate, and finish. This customer opted to completely eliminate any chance of moisture being in the air by having the world's smallest and most efficient dehumidification system installed in the basement! The SaniDry Sedona is the best way to take care of a moisture problem in any basement or crawlspace, along with sealing the leakiest area in the bottom of the house, the rim joist. And simply enough, the crew was able to install it right next to a "slop sink" and drain it right into it, making the installation seamless.
These treatments left the customers home feeling more comfortable and will end up saving them money in energy savings in the long run. Sealing the joist reduced the leakiness of the home and the SaniDry Sedona will reduce the moisture going into the rest of the home which will allow the HVAC unit to work more efficiently. Allowing the homeowners to feel more comfortable in their home.
