Poorly Insulated Attic
Fiberglass insulation layered with dirt is all that insulates this house from the outside air. The fiberglass doesn't perform at optimal levels when it is packed with dirt, so it has been rendered essentially ineffective by the dirt.
Dirty Insulation

Covering the attic stair cavity with an airtight, insulated hatch will slow down the movement of air through that area dramatically and keep the inside of the house comfortable.
