Enhancing Insulation for a Standard Vented Crawl Space in Toms River, NJ
Challenge
We are inspecting a typical crawl space in a 55+ community in Toms River, NJ. In these neighborhoods, it's common to find crawl spaces lacking proper insulation and protection for the homes. Without insulation or a liner, moisture can build up, and outside air can infiltrate the crawl space. Additionally, open vents, remnants of outdated construction practices, should be closed and sealed. Unprotected moisture, combined with leaky rim joists and unwanted gases, can infiltrate the crawl space, potentially causing uncomfortable conditions and indoor air quality issues in the living areas above.
Solution
To address this issue, we'll start by spray foaming the exposed rim joists to prevent air leakage. Next, we'll install SilverGlo insulation boards on the inside of the exterior walls to stop unwanted air from entering the crawl space. Then, we'll lay down TerraBlock foam mats to insulate the floor and cover them with a 20 mil thick CleanSpace Liner to prevent gases and moisture from rising. With these measures, we'll establish a solid thermal barrier at the base of your home, blocking unwanted hot or cold air and moisture from entering.
