Poorly Insulated Bay Window in Sea Girt, NJ
Challenge
This bay window in Sea Girt, NJ, lacks proper insulation, leading to air leakage into the homeowner’s house. This airflow through the bottom of the bay window can result in temperature fluctuations, causing some rooms to feel uncomfortably cold or hot and potentially increasing energy bills.
Solution
To rectify this issue effectively, we propose removing the plywood underneath and implementing either spray foam insulation or installing SilverGlo rigid foam boards to seal the area beneath the bay window. While spray foam allows for the reuse of the plywood, our preference lies with SilverGlo rigid foam boards, paired with ZypFoam to meticulously seal any seams, ensuring minimal air leakage. This solution not only addresses temperature imbalances but also aids in reducing energy consumption and mitigating any condensation issues arising from fluctuating temperatures.
