Insulating Kneewall & Dense-packing Bedroom in Red Bank, NJ
Challenge
In Red Bank, NJ, the master bedroom suffered from inadequate insulation, causing discomfort during both hot summers and cold winters due to an adjoining office and a poorly insulated kneewall on the right side (highlighted in green). Additionally, a vaulted ceiling (highlighted in orange) accumulated condensation from the AC wall unit.
Solution
To address these issues, we initiated the insulation process by using Foamax boards along the roof slopes in the kneewall and employing spray foam in the kneewall gables, thereby establishing a conditioned space. This newly installed thermal barrier effectively prevents the ingress of hot and cold air into the office area. Following the completion of the kneewall insulation, our next step involves drilling holes in the vaulted ceiling to densely pack the sloped ceilings with TruSoft cellulose insulation. This action creates an additional thermal barrier for the master bedroom and eliminates any condensation caused by the AC wall unit.
As a result of these measures, the homeowner now experiences a notably improved living space that is both more comfortable and energy-efficient.
