Poorly Insulated Attic Needing Storage in Fair Haven, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Fair Haven, NJ, faced comfort issues in their home. During the winter, the conditioned air they were paying for escaped into the vented attic, ultimately being lost to the outside. This air leakage drew cold air into the rooms below, resulting in drafts. Additionally, the homeowner was in search of extra storage capacity within the attic.
Solution
Certainly, we swiftly addressed the situation by first air sealing the attic floor using orange ZypFoam sealant. The decision to either replace or enhance the current fiberglass insulation depends on its condition. In this case, since the house was built in 2021 and the insulation is relatively new, additional insulation was not necessary. Following this, we constructed wooden retaining walls around the attic's storage area. Subsequently, we installed 4” SilverGlo board foam across the majority of the attic floor, sealed with ZypFoam. Wood sheets secured with special long screws were then added to create insulated storage decking and any remaining gaps were sealed with ZypFoam. The attic insulation was finalized by blowing in TruSoft insulation on the opposite side of the retaining walls, ensuring the homeowner now benefits from a well-insulated attic featuring SuperDecking flooring for storage.
