Encapsulated Ducts in Freehold, NJ
Challenge
A homeowner in Freehold, NJ had an AC unit that would not shut off. The AC unit was consuming more electricity and could not maintain the correct temperature. The homeowner was uncomfortably hot during the summers and needed our help. One reason the AC unit is constantly running is because the attic ducts weren’t properly insulated. Attics can reach over 140 degrees during the summer and with leaks to the connected flexible ducts; we have a homeowner overpaying paying to cool their house. Instead of getting cold air distributed throughout the house, the owner is getting warm air and a leaky duct system. In short, this homeowner is paying for an AC unit to leak, distribute warmer air, and make everyone in this house uncomfortable all while paying more for it.
Solution
Lucky this homeowner called us to help resolve their uncomfortable home and to make their house more energy efficient. This attic needed a lot of help, we first air sealed the leaky floor with our orange ZypFoam sealant and removed the old fiberglass insulation. Next we addressed the duct system by encapsulating the supply duct with our SilverGlo insulation panels. The radiant barrier helps disperse the heat away from the ducts keeping the air cold inside the ducts. We then create retaining walls in the attic and use our ZypFoam sealant to seal the rest of the ducts leaks and any other gaps or leaks on the floor. Finally we bury the ducts with our blown-in TruSoft cellulose insulation.
This homeowner now has a more comfortable and energy efficient home.
