This customer in Holmdel was suffering due to the lack of insulation on his walls between his Cape Cod style storage areas and the conditioned space in his house. He was freezing through the winters and boiling through the summers due to the lack of insulation on the walls. Dr. Energy Saver of the Jersey Shore was able to diagnose this problem quickly due to how prevalent these un-insulated knee-walls are in home constructions. 2" polyisocyanurate foam board was used to create a barrier on the walls, it hung and air sealed so that air can't continue to freely move into the house as in was before. Stopping where air is coming into the home is key to solving most comfort issues.
Uninsulated Storage Area
Without insulation, air can just freely move into your home creating comfort and energy issues.
Exposed Kneewalls
Kneewalls before the insulation solution.
Shielded Kneewall
Reflective foamboard now separates the conditioned space from the storage space, keeping the home comfortable.
Insulated Kneewall
Foam board cleanly covers the wall to keep it sealed.
Smaller Cavity With Insufficient Insulation
This smaller cavity did not have the proper insulation to cover the ceiling of the room below.
Smaller Cavity Insulated
Cellulose is sprayed to cover the ceiling of the room below to make sure no outside air is leaking into the home.
