Insulation Services Photo Album: Crawl Encapsulation in Little Silver, NJ
These customers had a few issues in their house that were affecting indoor air quality. One major problem being the two crawlspaces under the house. They were damp and musty, leaving the air in their house feeling thick and unclean. The thin plywood hatch was not doing much to stop the free flow of air into their home. Dr. Energy Saver knew how to help, we recommended encapsulating the crawlspace with our CleanSpace liner, insulating the exterior walls with polyiso foam board, and adding spray foam to the rim joists around the crawl to solve the customer's specific issues. This treatment will completely seal the house, separating it from the outside air that is coming in. To maximize the efficiency of the liner and to ensure that its warranty stays in tact, it is installed with dimple drainage mat on the floor underneath it. The dimple drainage mat will provide a thermal break from the cold ground and allow the water to drain towards the sump pump under the mat, keeping the area clean and dry. The customers were left with the fresh air they deserved in their house because their home was sealed blocking the outside air from coming in through the crawlspace.
Crawl Entrance
Crawl entrance is right in the utility area near garage, open to rest of house.
Before Encapsulation
Signs of moisture and an odor were evident throughout the crawlspace.
Torn Duct Insulation
With the crawlspace unprotected, this insulation deficiency allows the ducts to sweat and allow crawlspace air into your home.
Unprotected Rim Joist
Wood holds an R-Value of under 1.5 per inch of thickness so the rim joist allows a lot of outside air into he crawl.
Dimple Drainage Mat
Drainage mat is installed under CleanSpace liner to provide a thermal break from the floor, so the liner is not directly touching it. It also allows any water to move freely under the liner to properly drain to the sump pump while keeping the crawlspace sealed and safe.
Encapsulated Crawlspace
CleanSpace liner covers the crawlspace floor, accounting for the terrain such as pipes and support features.
Ducts Now Safe
With the crawl encapsulated the ducts are no longer at risk to the outside air causing them to sweat or getting inside them.
Second Crawl Access
Hole created in wall after second crawl was discovered to gain access to seal second crawlspace.
