Cantilever Poorly Insulated In Point Pleasant, NJ

View Photo Gallery

Challenge

This homeowner in Point Pleasant, NJ, experienced seasonal discomfort on their second floor. In winter, it would become too cold and drafty, while in summer, it would get too warm. We discovered a large, poorly insulated cantilever separating the first and second floors, allowing hot and cold air to leak in, resulting in uncomfortable rooms and a cold floor.

Solution

To insulate the cantilever soffit, we drilled a hole in each joist bay and inserted a special mesh bag. This bag was then filled with TruSoft cellulose insulation using a blowing machine. Once fully packed, the bag was pushed back toward the house, ensuring the cantilever spaces were "dense-packed" with TruSoft. This method stops airflow and provides thorough insulation. After filling all spaces, the holes were plugged and sealed. As a result, this homeowner now enjoys a more comfortable and energy-efficient home.
