A homeowner in Manalapan Township had leaky ducts in their attic, causing increased energy costs and discomfort. Conditioned air was escaping into unconditioned spaces like the attic, leading to higher electric bills.
Solution
We sealed the ducts with mastic tape, installed SilverGlo foam boards for insulation, and used ZypFoam to reconnect and thoroughly seal the ducts. These actions have stopped the leaks, improving the home's comfort and energy efficiency.
Project Summary
Products Used: SilverGlo, ZypFoam, TruSoft
The insulation around the ducts is deteriorating and failing to effectively insulate them.
There's a significant gap in the ductwork, allowing conditioned air to leak into an unconditioned space, like the attic.
There's a significant hole in the duct where the flex duct is completely disconnected, causing conditioned air to leak into the attic.
The highlighted area in orange showcases the installation of SilverGlo foam boards to encapsulate and insulate the ducts.
Additionally, the green-highlighted flex trunk was reconnected and air-sealed using ZypFoam.
Finally, ZypFoam, highlighted in yellow, was used to thoroughly air-seal the ducts, eliminating leaks.
As a result of these measures, the homeowner now enjoys ducts that no longer leak, significantly enhancing the comfort and energy efficiency of their home.
