We are in Red Bank, NJ where the customer’s complaint is on the second floor of their back bedroom. Their complaint is the back bedroom was too hot in the summer and way too cold in the winter. When inspecting their house we found the back bedrooms Kneewall was exposed or unprotected from the outside elements. The bedroom’s Knewall space was poorly insulated and lacked the proper insulation to keep the room comfortable.
Solution
The Kneewall begins in the next room but wraps around the back bedroom. We first sealed the rim joists by using spray foam to eliminate the outside air from leaking into the back bedroom. Our SilverGlo foam insulation is installed under the rafters up the Kneewall and sealed at the seams with our orange ZypFoam sealant. The purpose of SilverGlo foam insulation is to reflect the roofs heat out during the summer and house heat back in during the winter.
Our customer now enjoys a comfortable back bedroom and their lower fuel/electric bills.

When entering the Kneewall we see no insulation on the roof rafters and the rim joists are exposed with no insulation protecting the Kneewall from the outside air.
Crawling to the next section of the Kneewall we can still see the lack of insulation on the roof rafters.

Looking at this image we fastened our SilverGlo foam insulation boards onto the roof rafters. If we look closer we can see rectangle cut outs along the floors where the rim joists are. We also used spray foam to seal the rim joists so the outside air does not penetrate the Kneewall.
As we see in this image, we used an orange sealant called ZypFoam to seal all the seams in the Kneewall.
This image shows the end of our Kneewall where the head of the bed lies behind the left wall. With this Kneewall properly insulated our customer will have a comfortable back bedroom to sleep in.
