Top Plate Leaks & Air Sealing in Freehold, NJ
Challenge
In Freehold, NJ we pulled back the exposed fiberglass insulation and found the attic floor was not air sealed. When looking at the top plate we can see a ¼ to ½ inch gap between the sheetrock and wood frame (2x4). Also we can see a drill hole where an electrical wire is fed through. These gaps and holes are one of the major leaking points in the attic. It’s equivalent to an open window about 3-6 inches. Now imagine opening your window during the hot summers while your AC unit is trying to cool your house down.
Solution
This is a complete waste of money; you are trying to cool your house down during the summer while your window is open. Homeowner’s who do not have their attic air sealed will constantly pay more for their energy bills while their AC constantly runs. Our solution is simple; we use our orange ZypFoam sealant to seal all the gaps and holes in the attic floor. Once the attic is air sealed we will blow-in our TruSoft cellulose insulation. This homeowner now has a much more comfortable and energy efficient home.
