Leaky Uninsulated Attic Pull Down Stairs in Holmdel, NJ
Challenge
When inspecting the attic of our customer’s home in Holmdel, NJ we found the attics pull down stairs poorly insulated and leaking unwanted air in and out of the attic. We see this a lot an attic hatch or the entrance of the attic leaking air through the gaps and openings. There is no insulation to help insulate the hatch or stairs. The gaps and openings causes’ air to seep through while air you paid for vents out the attic hatch or attic entrance.
Solution
Our solution is to first air seal the attics gaps and holes with our orange ZypFoam sealant. The ZypFoam sealant is used to eliminate air from leaking in and out of the seams of the attics hatch or entrance to the attic. Next we install weather stripping to the floor of the attic where our team secures our David Lewis Hatch Cover on top of the hatch or entrance to the attic. The David Lewis Cover rest right over the pull down stairs and eliminates air leakage and insulates over the stairs.
The homeowner can lift the David Lewis Hatch Cover aside to go up the attic, and set it back in place when they leave. Our David Lewis Hatch is made from our SilverGlo foam insulation with infused graphite into the foam which bumps up the insulation value by 24% over standard EPS foam. Finally, the David Lewis Hatch Cover has a flat lid to reflect heat back in during winter and out in the summer, so the insulation isn’t doing all the work by itself.
Our customer now enjoys a less drafty house, a more comfortable home, rooms easier to heat, lower fuel and electric bills.
