Photo Album: Complete Home Energy Retrofit in Little Silver, NJ
One of our customers in Little Silver, NJ, lives in a one-story ranch built in 1951 with a full basement under it. They recently built an addition with a crawlspace under it as well. She called us to see if we could take care of her cold floors in the new addition to the home. When our sales team made the visit, they discovered that she was suffering from more issues than she had previously thought. Aside from a crawl space that needed to be insulated and air sealed, we noticed that her attic was allowing a lot of outside air in the home as well.
We air sealed the attic and installed cellulose insulation on the floor of her attic. Her thin fiberglass insulation was not doing enough alone. Also, her attic access hatches were not covered with any form of barrier, so air was moving freely in and out of the house. To solve this, we created custom-insulated, weather-sealed attic hatches for both her access stairs and closet. Additionally, we recognized that her attic duct work was not properly sealed and allowing a lot of her conditioned air to escape through the attic. Our solution to this problem was sealing all of the leaky joints on the ducts and cracks that led into the home with spray foam.
The home now maintains a consistent temperature and her floors are no longer freezing to the touch!
